An old tradition resumes after an enforced break

Waiting on the Market Hill for the start of the Remembrance Sunday Parade to St. Gregory’s Church, Sudbury, on November 14th, 2021

In 2022, the Sudbury Freemen’s Society provided mace bearers for the Civic Service at St. Gregory’s Church on March 13th. Mace bearers accompanied the Mayor, Sue Ayres, on April 27th when she tasted the grass on the Sudbury Common Lands during the traditional quinquennial event, (COVID delayed from 2020), to inspect the pastures at the beginning of the new grazing season. Mace bearers also escorted the new Mayor, Ellen Murphy, during the ancient annual Mayor Making Ceremony in Sudbury Town Hall on May 10th.
