“Although he was a native of Sudbury, of which town he was a Freeman, he had spent over 50 years in Horringer, where he had carried on a business as a butcher. It is just over 50 years since he was elected on the Horringer Parish Council, on which he served for over 40 years, being one of its original members. An ardent Liberal, with strong convictions, he took an active interest in local government for most of his life. For 26 years he was a member of the 2nd. Batt. Suffolk Volunteers.”
